Emergency Food Network (EFN) - state funds distributed through the State of Utah-Department of Community and Culture-State Community Services Office (SCSO) to emergency food pantries statewide. The EFN funds assist food pantry agencies with capacity building pantry improvements, pantry operations and distribution of emergency and supplemental nutrition foods to impoverished households.
In 2006, the Emergency Food Network program funds assisted agencies in providing up to a three-day nutritional food box, prepared meals and other resources. This food program assists approximately 260,437 low-income/homeless households annually, or 21,703 households each month.
There is support within local communities statewide for food pantries. Communities regularly donate food and in-kind donations and citizens volunteer at their local emergency food pantry. In 2005, there were 462,360 volunteer hours which represents over $2.3 million in donations to the statewide food pantries.
