About
The Commission on State Indian Affairs was created in 1953 when the Utah State Legislature passed the “Indian Affairs Act.” The first director for the commission was hired in 1956. The commission was restructured in 1999 as the Division of Indian Affairs. It is currently staffed by the Director, Program Manager, and Administrative Assistant. It is part of the Department of Heritage & Arts.
Our mission is to promote positive ingergovernmental relations and government to government relationship between the state of Utah and Utah's Indian tribes.

Census Outreach
Utah State Library houses the world’s largest braille collection, according to the Library of Congress. Total number of items circulated exceeded 300,000 and went to nearly 14,000 patrons. Volunteers read 31,000 hours for the blind and disabled. Program staff brailled over 19,000 pages of material..
Gatherings
The approval of a new storage facility and exhibition space on Capitol Hill capped a years-long effort to build a permanent home for the state-owned arts and historic artifacts collections.

Budget
The Utah Division of Indian Affairs aims to address the socio-cultural challenges of the eight federally-recognized tribes in Utah. Indian Affairs advocates for American Indian concerns while helping establish positive government-to-government relationships between tribal nations and the state.
